Camp Reunion Through Kid Pix

Last weekend Lee and I went to Chico for our camp reunion.  It's one of the most fun days of the year, and I was DEVASTATED when we were half way there and I realized that I had forgotten my camera.

But then: TADA! I had a great idea inspired by the hilarious genius at http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/ (Seriously.  Read this blog. She is a comedian/magician)

I spent this last week trying to recreate the events of the weekend using Kid Pix.
And so, without further ado:

Camp Reunion 2011

The trip began with Lee and me driving 3,000,000 miles to Chico because that is how far it is from Sacramento.
Also, there were some silos and rice buildings (official name)

We met some of our friends at the Bear.  They have hamburgers and various libations.  I was the only girl, so I later bailed for Starbucks.

We checked into the Hotel Diamond.  It was SUPER nice.  I loved it.  I wish I lived there.

Then it was time for dinner!  It was delicious, and there were even prizes.  This is a picture of when Stephanie won some bacon bandaids.

The celebration continued at a place called LaSalle's.  They had 80s music and an awkward man who was lip syncing the whole time.

Then we went back to the Bear.  There were less hamburgers, but more empty cups.

When we got back to the hotel Lee found a broken soda machine.  He was convinced that I had secretly placed the sign there to toy with his soda-wanting emotions.  I had to whisper yell at him to get into our room before we were escorted out of the hotel.

The next day we all went out for brunch at Breakfast Buzz.
Rachel came a little later.

Coming to a Christmas Card Near You

There is no one in the world like camp friends.  Some of my other friends don't understand this statement and I know that it can sound a little hurtful, but the truth is that the bonds formed between people who have experienced summer camp together is completely unique.  Not better, but totally distinctive.  So when three of our camp friends said they were coming for a sleep over, Lee and I were beside ourselves.  We knew we were in for fun. (Typically, of the unspeakable variety).

Stephanie, Katie Cowie, and Tamara showed up in a swirl of cute clothes, squeals of glee, and perfectly mismatched luggage.  They were stopping through on their way to San Francisco to help Stephanie move into her new apartment.  Katie Cowie announced she ONLY brought dresses for the entire affair. (Let's hear it for living it up in the City right out of college!) We dined, we attempted to do Christmas karaoke, and we dressed up in odd red and green themed costumes to really embrace the holiday spirit.  Observe:
I suggested that Lee try looking a little less
like a serial killer.

 Merry Christmas!

And this is my friend Tamara.
Ha.
Ha ha ha ha!

I mean...

Fish On

In the Sierra Nevadas there is a town called Sierra City.  In this town there is a "resort" called Harringtons.  In this "resort" there is a small cement pond.  In this pond there are 1,000,000 over-fed trout stuffed to near explosion with dog food-ish pellets that are sold out of a candy machine right next to the cement pond.  Here's how that went:

My hand extended to feed the vicious beasts

Quickly, I pulled my arm back.  Lee gripped my shirt for additional safety.

This angle nicely features the dog food dispenser

Piranhas (ie: Dog food-fed trout)

The best part of this sign is the last line. "CAUTION: Raw trout may be harmful to dogs."
What if the trout is brimming with dog food?

Inside the restaurant I looked over the menu and saw that Harrington's was serving "trout from our very own pond!"

I chose the steak.

I Miss Camp!

Lee and I ate at the Black Bear Diner in Davis on Saturday morning.
I was hit like a ton of bricks when I first walked in because it smelled EXACTLY like the lodge at camp does during breakfast.  In that instant I missed camp so much that I wanted to cry. :(  I'm so excited we get to be there all summer!

Slightly creepy?

Don't worry; Lee didn't cry over the smells of the Black Bear Diner.
