Sheena's Fall Wedding

On Saturday, my friend Sheena Zweigle got married. :)

I would say 90% of basketball games I ever played were with Sheena.  We were Gilmore Bombers together, we participated on an ill-fated AAU team together (we lost one game 98-11.  Eesh), and we were Lady Miners together.

Also, our Friend Megan (Curtis) Jackson came!  Sheena, Megan, and I were the "tall girls" on our high school basketball team.  They were well known for being aggressive and determined, while I could always be counted on to have a perfectly tied ribbon in my hair (we all have our talents).

Here is the photo recap:

If you look beyond the embarrassing amount of drinks we nabbed, you can see the lovely center pieces that Sheena's students helped make.  (Sheena teaches Ag, not Kindergarten).

 Good ol' Chico beer

 Francis McFadden, folks

 The fruit kabobs were delicious!

 Sheena's parents are my favorite.

Nothing's finer than a Lady Miner.
(Sorry about the awkward hand on the stomach, Sheena)

Practicing our follow through.
(Looks like Megan is a little rusty).
This is my dad.
This is what he said at my friend's wedding reception, "You know, when I was younger, Maury and I always wanted to open up a salon where all we did was shave women's legs.  Of course, that would never work now; I'm too old."

Yes.

Also, my mother told me that zombies have a code of conduct.

The wedding was just lovely.

The Best Part of My Day...

was getting THIS picture in my e-mail:

This is my friend Jessica and me at Kristy and Eric Norrell's wedding.  Their party favors were fake mustaches and dinosaur tatoos.  While Jessica went with the standard handle bar, I decided to pull a Frida Kahlo and go with the unibrow.

Now, three years later, Jessica is getting married (in a week and a half!).  She has been my friend since were were in 7th grade, and it only seems right that I honor that many years of friendship with a poster-size copy of this presented to her at her wedding reception.

Summer Goes Out With a Splash

There are lots of good things about Lee's mom and step-dad.  I could list them all right now, but I'm currently thinking of one in particular, and that is that they have a boat.  They have a boat that they invite us to ride on when it is a million degrees.  They are pretty great.

While most people worked on some sort of "ski" or "board" activity, I was trying really hard to perfect my "biscuiting," which is holding onto a flat circle while being towed behind a boat.

 Lee went wakeboarding

And then did this.  Whatever this is.

Then there were the biscuits.

Although it doesn't look like it, I am hanging on for dear life.

Lauren is much better at looking photogenic while behind a boat.

The Bike is Here!

I have been planning and wishing and hoping and aimlessly walking through the aisles of bike stores in preparation for this moment:

My very own bike is here!

There are still some slight alterations being made (ie, Lee is still trying to install the basket on the back so I can ride my groceries home in style) so the actual visual of the entire bike is TBA, but here are some teasers:

Why Lee, what kind of tool is that you are using?

Floral printed pliers.  I should have guessed.

While Lee worked on the basket I worked on perfectly wearing my helmet.  Yes, I am one of those people that wears helmets whenever I am on a bike, even though I have bangs and mixing any sort of head gear with bangs is a hazard in and of itself.

Giving it the knock test? for safety.
Don't you think Jane Jetson has this helmet for her bike (hoverbike?)?

Monday Night

Fall is here.
Are YOU ready for some football?

Lee and his friend Alan are:

Niner fans love Blue Moon?

Lee cooked these sausages on a miniature grill we have.
If you are wondering why that one is so black, it's because he nearly burned down the house.

As far back as I can remember I have spent every Sunday and Monday night during the fall watching football.  To say nothing of the college football which airs all day on Saturday and the high school football on Friday nights. (Unless you/your brother are on the Freshman football team, and then it is Thursday evening).  Basically, I've spent a crazy amount of time watching football.  I like it enough to hang in there and watch, especially when it is a particularly exciting or important game, but some nights it just isn't my thing.

On football/sausage/house burning night I opted for this:

I still think it is a cruel trick of fate that I wasn't born during the reign of King Henry (#8).
I love Philippa Gregory, and Historical Fiction.
Also, the 49ers stunk it up.

My Bathroom Mirror

This is written on the bathroom mirror at my house:
That way, if you are ever brushing your teeth, or sitting on the toilet (the bathroom is very small), you know the person that was there before you really cares.

Second Saturday/Art Walk/Cluster F@$%

I've heard good things about Second Saturday/Art Walk in Midtown Sacramento.  Allegedly, it is a time where galleries open their doors and serve free appetizers and musicians play music on street corners all in an effort to bring a little bit of culture to Midtown Sacramento.  I feel like when Second Saturday originally started that must have been the intent, but these days...well...

First of all, we had to walk by this house.
Clearly, it is haunted.

This was the sign at one of the "artist's" booths.
(I mean, not such bad advice)

Also, there was a SHOOTING, per this news story:

So, while full of good intentions, Second Saturday turned out to be somewhat of a dangerous and crazy time.

We'll probably go back next month.
